Deteriotaion In Health Condition In Maridi County and WES as a Whole.

From the start of the month, Maridi has been experiencing heavy rains making the area wet and cold. In other words which makes hide sickness strike resulting into too many deaths from start of this month only and if the trends continues, there is fear of the population been wept out.

Health facilities in Maridi has below standard during the 22 years war and even after which could cater for the health needs of the poverty stricken society amidst abundance of resources. So as a result the community intellectuals and seeking way out by asking for plan of action to rescue the people.

so am suggesting some immediate action plans to address the health problems in Maridi. In my personal opinion, demonstrations are normally used as the last resort when all other channels for addressing grievances are exhausted without response from appropriate authorities. Therefore, I am recommending that our brothers and sisters in Maridi approach the county authorities and deliberate on the problem and come up with time bound action plans to address this issue.

for instance, representatives of all the stakeholders (the paramount chief, youth group, women group, churches, health workers, NGOs including AAH, various communities represented in Maridi including the IDPs we have, traders, etc), meet the the county authorities to raise the concern and request immediate action to be taken.

Actions that should be taken could include the following,

1. Write urgent letter of concern about the situation to the ministry of health in WES (copied to appropriate individuals at various levels) by 30th of June 2008.

2. Request the WHO disease EWARN team through the GOSS ministry of health Directorate of Preventive and curative Medicine to carry out an assessment of the situation and formulate remedial measures by 31st May 2008.

3. Request the ministry of health in WES to address issue by 1st of June 2008

You can add more action plans to the few above and also form a monitoring team to ensure the action plans are executed and feedback to stakeholders are given on the steps being taken to resolve the problem.

Once the monitoring team signals lack of actions or response from appropriate people regarding the situation, then we will officially inform the authorities in the county, state and GOSS level that we are going to express our dissatisfaction by demonstrating. Now the demonstration is a communication tool that needs the right audience to listen to what is being said. Therefore, organizing a demonstration in Maridi town alone will not take us too far, the demonstration has to be in Maridi, Ibba, Yambio, Nzara, Ezo, Tambura, Mundri, Nagero, Mvolo, Medeba and even in Jambo. But because of time, we might want to limit it to Maridi, Ibba and Yambio.

For now, I would suggest we use appropriate channels to address the problem and this should be urgently done.

A Dubious reference to the Southern Sudanese

I would like to seek public view on the common word of referring to Southerners as "Animist South". According to the definition of Animism, it refers to:

The belief in the existence of individual spirit that inhabit natural objects and phenomena.

The belief in the existence of spiritual beings that are separable or separate from bodies.

The hypothesis that an immaterial force animates the universe.

However, Animism is associated with primitive societies, but it occurs in major World Religions. The world anima in Latin means soul. In its most general use animism is simply the belief in soul. In this general sense its present nearly in all Religions

In more restrictive sense, animism is the belief that souls inhabit all or most objects, it attributes personalized souls to animals, vegetables, and mineral object is- to some degree governed by the qualities which comprises its particular soul. Religions that are animistic in this more restrictive sense generally do not accept a sharp distinction between spirit and matter, and they generally assume that unification of matter and spirit play role in daily life.

Based on the above analysis, I would say both Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Bahasim, Confucianism and more others can be termed as Animistic. But why is it that Southern Sudanese are always referred to as "Animist" while the rest are ignored. It is because we are illiterate or underprivileged. If the Southern Sudanese are called Animists the Northern Sudanese should also be termed so, because majority of them are Muslims and do not separate Religion from magic, a Religious Leader is also a magician. They do go to Mosques with all the magical instruments such as the "hugiabu"

For the Western World most of them are Atheists, and no one talks about it? is it because they are the Super powers? A survey conducted by BBC last year found that most people interviewed did not know who is the mother of Jesus and when he is was born?. According me most Southern Sudanese are believers either Christians or Muslims though we have some African Traditional Religion believers which is still a Religion.

I would call upon our Southern Sudanese journalists and other Media Houses to avoid using the word Animist South and as well challenge the International Media to avoid for good।

Col. Ngere Chair's Hon. Council of ministers sitting No 26/2007

The Acting Governor (WES) Col. Joseph Ngere Paciko chaired Hon. Council of ministers sitting No 26 dated Friday 17^th Aug 2007 at the State HQ s to discuss issues pertaining to the welfare of the State.

This sitting brought together for the 1^st time in two and half years since WES-government came into being the Executive and Legislative following complains by the Assembly that the Executive is operating single handed in decision making for the State. WES-Parliamentarian cited the signing of concession agreement between the government and the Equatoria teak Company as an example where the Assembly was totally neglected by the Executive an act the August house is bitter about.

Acting governor briefed hon. Council of Ministers about update on security situation in the State. Col. Ngere stated that though security is relatively calm, there are reports of Amoroso who have move from Tombura to Mundri County he added that he had directed Mundri county Authorities to see that the Ambororo go to their initial destination.

After a lengthy and exhaustive discussions on the Agendas for the day that include:

¨ Briefing and update (security review)

¨ Integration of the Staff of the State ministry of health

¨ Assembly stand on re-integration report

¨ Government retreat

¨ WES assets and employees in Khartoum

¨ WES employees in Universities and courses

¨ Repair of roads in the State

The Hon. Council of ministers resolves the following:

v That Governors decree dated 15^th July 2007 still holds

v That a committee comprising both members form the executive and Legislative be formed to review the results of the re-integration

v The Government goes for a three day retreat as from 23^rd -27^th August 2007

v WES assets in Khartoum be auctioned

v That those going for further studies in universities and courses are to sign contract with their respective ministries or units in collaboration with public service.

GOVERNOR SAMUEL ABJOHN KABASHI LEAVES YAMBIO FOR JUBA .

August 15^th 2007 (Yambio) - The Governor of WES Lt. General Abujohn Kabashi today left for Southern Capital Juba to participate in the SPLM Leadership Council meeting due to convene there tomorrow Thursday 2007.

Talking to Journalists at his residence this morning before departure Lt. Gen. Abujohn disclosed that his recent trip to Juba was to follow up certain aspects pertaining to the welfare of the State. He further said that while in Juba he met with the Minister of Roads and Transport Mr. David Deng Athorbe and discussed with him road projects in WES.

Governor Abujohn also disclosed that, he also discussed with UNOPS on possibility for completion of State Head Quarters which is expected by 30^th Sept. 2007. Though the State was stable on his return said the Governor, there are movement of Ambororo from Tambura to Mundri County which has been confirmed by the Deputy Governor and Minister of Information and Communications Col. Joseph Ngere Paciko. According to D/G, the Ambororo initial plan is to proceed to Yerol in Lakes State .

Speaking about LRA Gpvenor Abjohn said, the LRA are no longer in Nabanga Camp where they assembled. There are roomers that the LRA were seen going towards the DRC and others are to unknown location but presumable in WES and that the State authority is monitoring with concern.

He stated also that, Flood has hit Mundri County destroying houses and properties but no death cases reported. It is to noted that, Governor Abjohn is expected to proceed from Juba to Uganda for medical treatment.

His primary goal for one required class was to spend the entire semester attempting to prove that God couldn'texist.
His students were always afraid to argue with him because of his impeccable logic.For twenty years, he had taught this class and no one had ever had the courage to go against him.Sure, some had argued in class at times, but no one had ever really gone against him because of his reputation.
At the end of every semester on the last day, he would say to his class of 300 students, "If there is anyone here who still believes in Jesus,stand up!"In twenty years, no one had ever stood up. They knew what he was going to do next.
He would say, "Because anyone who believes in God is a fool.If God existed, he could stop this piece of chalk from hitting the ground and breaking. Such a simple task to prove that He is God, and yet He can't do it."And every year, he would drop the chalk onto the tile floor of the classroom and it would shatter into a hundred pieces.All of the students would do nothing but stop and stare.
Most of the students thought that God couldn't exist. Certainly, a number of Christians had slipped through, but for 20 years, they had bee n too afraid to stand up.
Well, a few years ago there was a freshman who happened to enroll.He was a Christian, and had heard the stories about his professor.He was required to take the class for his major, and he was afraid. But for three months that semester, he prayed every morning that he would have the courage to stand up no matter what the professor said, or what theclass thought.Nothing they said could ever shatter his faith...he hoped.
Finally, the day came. The professor said, "If there is anyone herewho still believes in God, stand up!" The professor and the class of 300 people looked at him, shocked, as he stood up at the back of the classroom.
The professor shouted, "You FOOL!!!If God existed, he would keep this piece of chalk from breaking when ithit the ground!"He proceeded to drop the chalk, but as he did, it! slipped out of his fingers, off his shirt cuff, onto the pleat of his pants, down his leg, and off his shoe.As it hit the ground, it simply rolled away unbroken.

Returnees and IDPS in Maridi In need of Relief

There is shortage of food and shooting up of prices of food items in Maridi over these last few weeks. There seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel.

A kilo of meat is now Ush 4,000 from 2,000. The cost if a tin of maize grains has short to Ush15,000 from 4,000, just to mention but a few.

The cause for this is a series of problems:
- Returnees from Bringi camp in DRC, (the first trip of 90 house holds have arrived)
- Displaced citizens by ethnic clashes in Mvolo County, (there are 7,031 house holds registered)
- Displaced citizens from areas ranging from Mekke to E’di by Lord’s Resistant Army (LRA),
- Return of Maridians from Juba and Khartoum.

The County Commissioner of Maridi Samuel Rezig confirmed influx of population and regretted that the return of the refugees from DRC was abrupt without prior information and preparation. The SRRC secretary, James Benson also confirmed the figures of persons that entered Maridi County.

This situation needs and International intervention or else the starvation will grow to a terrible level.

Workshop on curriculum development for the GoSS.

Today I started a twenty one days workshop withe The Ministry of Education Science and technology of the government of South Sudan. It is great prospect to working with the minstry and gain more experience in the field of curriculum development.
Though it is hectic but good in in the sence that one get more knoeledge in the field.
The South had been under war for so long but now trying to get up and catch with the rest of the world in terms of development, education and other likes.
